Fans of Netflix’s popular show Outer Banks are now saying goodbye to a fan-favorite character — JJ Maybank. The actor who played him, Rudy Pankow, won’t be in Season 5, which has just started filming. JJ died at the end of Season 4, during an emotional trip in Morocco. His exit has deeply affected both the cast and the show’s world.
Season 5 will be the last part of the series. Madelyn Cline, who plays Sarah Cameron, shared how different it feels on set without Rudy. After being together for four seasons, the Pogues’ bond is changing. It feels emotional and strange. Madelyn said she cries almost twice a week and called this “the end of a big chapter” in her life.
In another update, Jonathan Daviss, who plays Pope Heyward, has been chosen to play the famous rapper Snoop Dogg in a new movie. The film will be directed by Craig Brewer, who also made Hustle & Flow, and it’s being produced by Snoop Dogg and Brian Grazer. Fans are excited to see Pope from Outer Banks take on this big role on the big screen.
The show’s creators — Josh Pate, Jonas Pate, and Shannon Burke — said Season 5 is just how they always imagined the story would end. They got the idea from a photo of teens on a beach at sunset. That one photo turned into five seasons of treasure hunts, danger, friendship, and strong emotions. Netflix confirmed in November 2024 that Season 5 would be the final season, and fans have been waiting ever since.
