A quiet sadness has spread through Hollywood after Kelley Mack, the lively actress from The Walking Dead, passed away peacefully on August 2 in Cincinnati. She was only 33. Kelley had been fighting a rare brain cancer called diffuse midline glioma (DMG).
Kelley became known for playing Addy in Season 9 of The Walking Dead. She also acted in shows like Chicago Med and 9-1-1, and appeared in movies such as Broadcast Signal Intrusion, Delicate Arch, and Universal, which came out in June 2025.
Her friends and family remember her as a “bright light” who loved acting, writing, and connecting with others. In an emotional Instagram post, her family shared that she passed away with her mother and aunt by her side. Many close to her say butterflies have shown up lately — a soft sign that she’s still near in spirit.
Doctors diagnosed Kelley with DMG in September 2024. At first, her symptoms, like back pain and nerve problem,s were thought to be a slipped disc. But the illness got worse quickly. Kelley shared her story openly. She even showed how she became partly paralyzed after a spinal biopsy and had to relearn simple things, like walking.
Still, Kelley stayed strong. In early 2025, she shared hopeful moments, like climbing stairs with help, leaning on her partner, and filming her last movie, Universal. Her honesty touched many people and helped raise awareness about rare brain cancers.
Kelley’s work lives on. Over 11 years in Los Angeles, she earned 35 acting credits and 5 producing credits. Her family plans to hold a memorial on August 16 in Ohio to honor her life and the warmth she gave to others
