Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris after win at Hungarian Grand Prix (Image credit: F1/X)
Lando Norris won today’s Hungarian Grand Prix at Budapest’s Hungaroring in a thrilling race, beating his teammate Oscar Piastri in a close finish that left fans on edge.
Norris had a bad start and lost places early. But with a smart one‑stop tyre plan, he fought his way back.
With ten laps to go, Piastri was closing in, but Norris stayed focused even with worn tyres. In the final corners, Piastri locked up, and Norris kept a 0.6‑second lead to take the win. The crowd cheered loudly as he sealed McLaren’s 200th F1 victory.
This win cut Piastri’s lead in the championship from 16 points to just 9. The title race now feels wide open as McLaren heads into the summer break. Piastri still leads, but Norris’s bold drive has given him big momentum.
Charles Leclerc, who started from pole, saw his race fall apart after Ferrari changed strategy. He dropped to fourth and then got a penalty, with many blaming team mistakes and tyre problems.
Lewis Hamilton had a tough weekend too, qualifying 12th and finishing out of the points. Over the team radio, he admitted he felt “useless.”
There was also drama between Max Verstappen and Hamilton. Verstappen made a risky move at Turn 4, pushing Hamilton off track. The incident was reviewed, but Verstappen was cleared. Hamilton skipped the stewards’ meeting, questioning if the decision was fair.
Off the track, Norris shared an emotional moment with his girlfriend Margarida Corceiro after the race. It was their first public appearance together since getting back together after their 2024 split.
With high stakes and big twists, McLaren’s smart call and Norris’s determination have made the F1 title fight even more exciting. Can Piastri stay ahead, or will Norris turn this into a championship run?
