Tim Cook visits the White House to announce Apple’s $100 billion boost in U.S. manufacturing, aiming to create more jobs and avoid import taxes.
Today in Washington, something surprising happened. Tim Cook, the boss of Apple, walked into the White House with a special gift for the President. It was a smooth glass disc made in Kentucky, placed on a shiny gold base from Utah. A former U.S. Marine who now works at Apple made it by hand.
But the gift wasn’t the main reason for the visit. After giving it, Cook shared big news: Apple will spend another $100 billion to build more parts in the United States. That brings Apple’s total U.S. investment to $600 billion over the next few years.
Why now? Just before this, President Trump said there will be a 100% tax on computer chips and parts brought in from other countries. But, companies like Apple that build more in the U.S. will not have to pay that tax. This deal could save Apple a lot of money.
Apple says they will now make some parts for iPhones and Apple Watches here in America. The glass will come from factories in Kentucky. They’ll also use magnets made by U.S. suppliers.
Investors liked this news. Apple’s stock price jumped up by 5% right after the announcement.
Still, Apple is not ready to build whole iPhones in the U.S. Cook said it would cost too much right now. But this move shows that Apple wants to keep up with changes and stay strong.
The moment felt honest—like a real handshake between two leaders. Now the big question is: will this change how Apple works? And will it bring more jobs to Americans? We’ll have to wait and see.
